Abstract

The rapid growth of urbanization from different aspects has affected urban environments; It has marked the dynamic and continuous physical development in cities. Conditions that have determined the directions of urban development very challenging issue. Physical development, which occurs under the influence of different forces, and if it experiences uneven expansion, imposes great costs on the city and its inhabitants in various dimensions. This makes more the importance of guiding and managing the physical expansion of cities. Therefore, the main purpose of this paper is to analyze the pattern of physical development in Yazd in recent decades. In the process of study various quantitative analytical models such as Shannon entropy, Holdern, Moran, comparison of mass and space of urban fabric and multi-temporal satellite images have been used to study the physical development pattern of the city. The results of all analyzes indicate the sprawl growth of Yazd city during recent decades and due to the high capacity of developing lands in the city, it is experiencing a bad and worse trend. Accordingly, it is suggested to use internal capacities and inactive urban levels to avoid sprawl growth.
