Abstract
Monographic research in the field of architecture is a topic that has been noticed by various researchers in the past few decades and observed in their articles. This kind of research has led to introduction, registration and documentation of buildings that have been destroyed due to being unknown. Despite the importance of monographs in the field of architecture, a comprehensive guide has not been prepared as a reference for writing such articles. Therefore, the main goal of the current research is to provide a comprehensive guide with predetermined steps for such research. For this purpose, early examples of monographs in Iran and the world were reviewed and analyzed to show the background of this topic. Then, according to the qualitative content analysis method, the text of 50 articles related to the last 75 years in this field has been analyzed, and the extracted concepts are specified as keywords. The findings of the research show that these concepts are subsets of a general category, and these categories have clarified the steps of monograph. These steps include Identification, Historiography and Architecture. In the Identification stage, the selection and observation of the building are done directly (site visiting) or indirectly (observation of existing pictures and designs of the building).
In thesecond stage, the historical background and the geographical location of the area where the building is located, the time of construction of the building and the course of its developments from the beginning until now, The builder and founders of the building, and the reason for its naming have been marked by citing sources such as atlases, existing inscriptions, historical texts, travelogues, poems, etc. In the final stage, the architectural description of the building is discussed and the spatial elements, appearance, structure, methods of implementation, materials and decorations used in it are specified.
